Okay, I have a stupid question?
« on: October 22, 2005, 11:10:30 pm »
I am pretty new to all of this, so here is my (stupid - just kidding) question?  I am getting a second opinion at Barrow's in acouple of weeks (hate that it is taking so long) with the Radiation Oncologist in the AN department.   My first opinion came from a Neuro Otologist.  He referred me to a hospital to have FSR - I haven't met with them yet.  Anyway, do I need to see another Neuro Otologist or Neurologist to get a second opinion or can a Radiation Oncologist give me an opinion?  Does this make sense?  I know he can compare radiation treatments for me but would I be able to get other opinions from him?  Is he able to just order the radiation without seeing a Neuro Dr at the clinic?  I am comfused as to which Dr. I should see to get this other opinion?  Hopefully this makes sense - I know I am rambling at this point.  ::)  I think having all the different treatment options makes it confusing as to the best kind of Dr. to see?

Dr. Despit is excellent at Barrows for radiation. I met with him before I decided on surgery for my 5mm/8mm AN. I am having surgery Tuesday at House Ear Clinic in LA. Dr. Despit will do my post-op.

Darlene,

Good Luck on Tuesday!  I hope all goes well, which approach are they using? Are you doing followup radiation at Barrow's?  Please keep us posted on your recovery!

I am going to see Dr. Kresl November 10.  I hate having to wait.  But atleast I have an appointment.  I have pretty much decided that I either want Cyberknife or FSR.   In the mean time I am going to see a Radiation Oncologist at Banner Good Sam.  The Dr. who diagnosised me referred me to them. But I am leaning towards Barrow's to do the radiation. I hear they have the most modern equipment compared with Good Sam.

Best Wishes,
Suzanne

Well...
Each specialist in their speciality does have an inherrant bias toward their prefferential mode of treatment.
I would want opinon from both sides. Maybe two from each side. After all, this is your brain we are talking about!
  Best wishes!
