I did it!!
« on: May 04, 2008, 07:56:55 pm »
My goal was to be able to run the Mini-Indy this year.  It's a half marathon (13.1 miles).  The race was yesterday.  I have been training since last summer.  I was worried about the weather.  It was cold and raining along with wind the day before.  The morning began with some clouds at the beginning of the race.  By the time I got to the starting line, the sun was beginning to peak out.  I was feeling really good as I ran.  The route was lined with people and bands cheering us on.  Not to mention the 35,000 people in the race.  Running around the race track at the Indianapolis 500 was awesome.  Before I knew it I had crossed the finish line!  Ok, it did take 2 hours and 38 minutes, but I am happy with that time.  As soon as the race was over I had my friend put in my eye ointment.  I feel so good now!

Jean -

that is fantastic news!!!  and quite an accomplishment - I don't think I could run a block these days, much less a half marathon  :o

I used to be a serious runner, but gave it up when I was trying to get pregnant - long story there.  I've been meaning to get back to it and still haven't - even though my kids are now 12.  I think about it a lot and I talk about it a lot, but I just haven't been able to get started again.

Maybe you will be an inspiration to me, and I'll finally get out there.

Congratulations,

Jan

That's inspiring and impressive, with or without an AN. I'm having a hard time picturing 35,000 people on a race track - that is one big parade. Nice going!

Hey Jean

That is great!!!!  I knew you could do it.  As a fellow half-marathoner, I know what you accomplished.  And I'm betting you're looking for your next one.

My first postie step back is the Revlon 5K with my daughter this weekend.  Nothing compared to what you did but it's the first step toward that goal.

Good going, Jean.  Running on the Indy track must have been awesome.

Jean:

Well done!  :)

I'm not a runner and never have been (I get tired just watching other folks run marathons) but I certainly can appreciate your accomplishment.   Your resolute approach to your chosen sport and your obvious surmounting of any AN-related obstacles is downright exciting.  I'm taking a wild guess that running the Indy track was physically demanding and so, finishing the half-marathon must have been rewarding on both a physical and emotional level.  I can't imagine the (well-deserved) euphoria you must have felt at the finish.

Thanks so much for sharing your achievement with your friends here.  We all salute you, Jean.  Now, get some rest.  :)

Jim

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.
