Cathy's Surgery Update
« on: August 21, 2008, 07:52:20 pm »
Hi everyone,
This is Cathy's daughter, Tara. Everything went really well today. They got done with mom's surgery about 1 1/2 hours earlier than expected, and the doctor's said her tumor "behaved" in the surgery.  I haven't been able to see her yet since I live a few hours away, so I am getting all the information from my grandparents.  She's in ICU right now and hopefully in a regular room tomorrow. I'll post again when she gets to go home.

Tara,

Thanks for the early update. I am glad to hear that the tumor "behaved", we don't like the mischievous ones. She may have to stay in the hospital a few days anyway; maybe  we can get one more update in the mean time?

Right side is weak too. Life is quiet.

Tara - I'm glad she's out of surgery.  As Steve said, she may have to stay in for a few more days, but that's expected.  I'm glad the tumor cooperated with them, that's generally good news.  Tell her that we're all thinking of her and are rooting for her during recovery.  She's now a "postie"!  That's great news!

Tara,

If they finished an hour and a half early, that means it was a very cooperative type tumor.

ICU for 24 hours was the protocal for me too before a regular room.

Thank you for taking the time to post...we hang on updates from family members.

We often celebrate the good news of the patient, but oftentimes forget to ask how the family members are holding up...How are you doing?

Tara- Thanks so much for updating us - we all worry about "our own" when treatment day arrives.  So glad to hear that the surgery went well and that it was shorter than expected - that's definitely welcome news!  Tell her all her AN friends are cheering her on and waiting for her return.

Hi Tara

Thank you so much for the post.  It sounds like your mom is doing great.  And I have to admit, that was the first time that I've heard the terminology -- the tumor behaved.  That is a very good thing.

Please give your mom our best and wish her a speedy recovery.

Hi, Tara:

I'll just add my thanks for your update on your mom and my relief that she's apparently doing quite well.

Tell her that when ANs don't behave during surgery, they get radiated or, in medical terms, fried.  :)
