Doctors or Facilities in Dallas, Texas?
« on: September 04, 2008, 07:39:24 pm »
Hi all,

I appreciate this board so much.  I've read a lot, but finally just started posting.  I'm talking with Dr. Friedman at HEI, but was wondering if any of you had information on doctors or facilities in Texas, or specifically Dallas, Texas.  I was recently diagnosed with a 9mm x 11mm AN.  I have decided on surgery as the best option for me.  I just want to make sure I've done the best research I can in making decisions with surgeons.

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Debra,  Welcome to the forum, and please do get the written information from the ANA 877-200-8211.  They will also send you a Willing to talk list that had a contact of the Dallas  area person (and also a local support group leader). Her name is Pamela Denesuk who was very helpful to me in our conversation.  She, and the ANA could refer you to local Phys., although a well connected person in Med community came up with "consult with Dr. Duke Samson at Southwestern Med  School of UT.  His phone # is2 14 645 2300. He has been professor of Neurosurgery for several years, and may be partially retired, but he can steer her to the proper specialists if he can't do it."  I personally didn't consult with them because I developed a trusting relationship with my Drs. (Kemper and Kemper) here in Austin, and had extremely successful surgery (no facial nerve compications, no infections, no regrowth, etc.)  I had a different approach than you are considering, however, but still will convey ph #'s (mine, Pam's) if you wish.

Good Luck in your quest, looks like you have been in similar scenario before.  You came through that, and will this too.

(Hi Julie... great info you share and thank you. Please know that posting personal contact info -- ie: your personal email address -- is not allowed on the site in efforts to protect you from spammers/phishers, etc. thus, I removed your email address.   All can reach you here on PM/Private emails where it is suggested you share your personal contact there. Thanks for understanding. Phyl)

Hi Debra  ;D

As Julie mentioned, ask the ANA for their information - it's wonderful.

There are some members on this forum who are from Texas - Kaybo, Boopie, Pooter, and possibly others - who might be able to help you.

You can PM them or wait for them to answer this post.

Good luck,

Jan

That is Boppie, not Boopie, and although she may be used to it by now, the newbies would have a hard time finding her!  I think all the folks Jan mentioned had surgery in Houston...
Best,
Jules

Debra, There is a very good doctor in Dallas at the Southwest Methodist Hospital, and I can get the name from a lady who had AN surgery about three months ago.  I will write her and get the info about him.

Thanks Julie...The name is Boppie (rhymes with Poppy) I am no longer on the WTT list.  Tinnitus makes talking long on the phone difficult.

You could try Dr. Brandon Isaacson at Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Thanks for the recommendation.  I've been given the name of Robert Owens here in Dallas.  Anyone heard of him?

Debra -

Asha (usugar1) had surgery with Dr. Owen on 6/3/08.  She hasn't posted in a while and unfortunately I can't find her personal information at the moment.

I spoke to Asha several times on the phone and via email and I'm sure she'd love to talk to you.  She had a very good surgical experience and really liked Dr. Owen.  Boppie was the one who originally put me in touch with Asha, so she probably still has her information.  Maybe a PM to Boppie would help.

Good luck,

Jan
