4.5 yrs post op and a new discovery
« on: February 18, 2009, 05:26:55 pm »
I've noticed that my tinnitus is less in the last few months however Monday night my ear was roaring very loud. It was very distracting. Tuesday morning I woke up to a runny nose that hasn't stopped in two days. (It's just one side of my nose, which is an added bonus of the AN). However the tinnintus is less again but my hearing in the good ear is muffled by congestion.  I am a teacher and I do not think I can go back to work until the hearing returns. I'd be yelling at everyone and constantly having people repeat themselves. My husband said my voice is louder than normal and I have the tv turned up VERY loud. The BAHA doesn't help.

So my discovery - tinnitus worsened before the onset of my cold. First headaches that predict weather changes, now tinnitus that predicts colds. All this for only the cost of an AN surgery. :) I still have to look for the humor.

If I didn't feel bad for you, I'd be laughing out loud.

Normal hearing before, 85%-90% now, dizziness when walking or turning head, annoying hissing and high pitched tinnitus on and off, eyes have trouble adjusting to rapid head move

Keri............not to worry about mad.....I got a good chuckle from your good attitude reasoning. It means a lot if one can maintain a good, positive attitude.....a "poker face" can be a good thing.......Keep'em guessing girl!!!!

I continue to find humor dealing with the facial paralysis.   The other day I went to blow out a candle & realized when I puckered my lips & blew, the air went to the side.
We all got a good laugh from that !
Gotta keep (1/2) smiling !
Always good thoughts,  Nancy

My kids love it when I have to ask them to blow out candles or matches. One of my exercises from facial therapy was blowing up a balloon. It was tough to hold the balloon and my lips and try to blow.

I also find the facial paraylsis to come in handy....just the other day a co-worker was telling me all her financial problems, it was much easier to keep that look of horror off my face. :)

Keri,

Yu can find the humor in the situation or collapse in a puddle of tears -- laughing is better!

Sending healing thoughts your way,

Wendy

Wow! I can whistle!

:) 4.5 years post translab in England and I can whistle!! For so long I could only blow to one  side and my mouth is still lopsided when I  speak but I  can whistle.  I can also blow down my AN side nostril  again and  it  has opened up  quite a lot. I'm still a bit teary in my eye when I  eat but no-one seems  to  notice it. Things are still improving so don't  think that 2  years is the limit of improvement.  ;D

Glad you see the humor, Pembo!
You can predict a cold coming, so dose up on all the good stuff before it hits!
Airborne! vitamin C! echinacea! Zinc!

3.5 years post op,I can slightly whistle! And slightly breathe in through my left nostril. Amazing what excites us..... ;)
