Interesting article, indeed!  ...... right ear is my good ear also ...... maybe I am one of the fortunate few   However, pre-AN surgery, I used my left ear for the phone usually, since I am right-handed and could make notes, etc. that way.

Thanks, Raj for posting that article. Is is fascinating. Unfortunately, my good ear is the left. Fortunately, I don't smoke, so I shouldn't be asked for any cigarettes

Like Clarice, I use to put the phone to my left ear.  I"m right handed. Craddling the phone between left ear and shoulder allowed me to write stuff down. Now its a difficult task to craddle phone between right ear and shoulder.....

hmm...interesting. I used to hold the phone to my left ear (I'm right handed). Now, although I can still hear out of my left ear, it's not as good as it was and I hear better out of my right ear now. So, although I may look goofy, I find myself holding the phone with my left hand up to my right ear! LOL....guess to still leave my right hand free.

Probably, what they were trying to say is that right ear is better at listening (than hearing)..Since left part of the brain processes information, maybe information sent from the right ear is better/faster used by the brain. Maybe, ANers can be helpful in their research  .. like studying right-deaf or left-deaf people...Well again, brains might have adjusted for right-deaf people to process sounds coming from left ear faster/efficiently.. our brains are amazing.

Yes, it was a very interesting article...thanks for posting. My better hearing ear is my right ear...it is also the side that had the AN. In the diagnosis phase there was a bit of confusion because the asymetry in the audiogram that triggered the MRI which discovered the AN, showed that my greater hearing loss was in my left ear. It was quite the surprise when the AN showed up on the right side. Prior to doing the surgery we (neurosurgeon, head of radiology, and I) spent considerable time identifying landmarks on my skull to verify standard positioning protocol had been followed. We really wanted to make sure which side we needed to open up for the walking tour.

I'm forturnate that most of my hearing was preserved on the right side...I am *really* strongly left brained.
