this week (6/21) in the dichotomic week of AN
« on: June 21, 2009, 10:31:58 pm »
Hello,
Happy Father's Day to all papas!

I'm running a bit late as usual (I like to post this before the stroke of midnight, EST). Guess I'll now turn into a pumpkin.

This week's adjective credit goes to Rich56 (Scarlett's other half). Jim can explain it, because he inspired it. It's a good word. Thank you, Rich!

Here's what's up:
MONDAY is a busy day for surgery - there are 3:

MissMolly is at MGH (I think she went on a steroid induced baking spree for her doctors under advisement from Nancy Mc and Stoneax Bob's wife). Her husband, Steve will update.

Donna R is having retro in Philly at Jefferson Hospital. Her husband, Pat will be updating.

Best wishes to you both! We look forward to hearing from you as posties.

Cindy (clr) has posted a couple of threads about her daughter, Betsy. Betsy is 23 and will be having her 3rd surgery tomorrow (Pittsburgh). She had a very large tumor (4 cm+) and we hope and pray for complete removal tomorrow. I hope this will be the last.... Please keep us updated on Betsy's status, Cindy.

MRI's - Wendy will have her 1 year MRI - we hope it's all clear, Wendy!

TUESDAY:
Susan will have her MRI review. Again, we hope all is clear.

WEDNESDAY:
Melissa778 BAHA - now I"m not sure which stage of BAHA... surgery? Processor? I also hope all is well after the episode of gauze in her ear.  We wish you the best, Melissa.

THURSDAY:
Patty (alwaysthere) will be having retro in Rochester, MN. She is travelling now (early this week) and may not get to post before surgery. I hope it goes really well, Patty!

Julie (epodjn) will have lateral tarsorrhaphy. We hope this is successful for you, Julie (I'm not very familiar with this).

Greg (grega) will have a MRI follow up (post 4 1/2 years). We hope there's no problems, Greg.

FRIDAY:
cin605's 1 year surgery anniversary. Happy anniversary!

From last week's surgery's:
I think Bob (stoneaxe) is home and recovering and contemplating when he's going to go paddle boarding / surfing again. Everyone agreed that he looks better than Brad Pitt in his post op pics!

Greg M has posted about his GK in the radiosurgery section. We hope you both have good continued recoveries.

Have a good week.
Keri

The word, dichotomy comes from our own Jim.  Donna R wrote “Well, here I am six days until the 22nd...I'm very anxious, nervous, scared...but at the same timeâ€? and Jim’s response was “The dichotomy between AN patient's pre-surgery anxiety and a sense of relief is common and quite naturalâ€?.  As usual, Jim sent me back to the dictionary ;D

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families MissMolly, Donna R, Betsy, Brian, Patty, and Julie.  Best wishes for successful surgeries.

Best wishes to Wendy, Susan, Greg on clear MRI results,

Melissa, best wishes on your BAHA procedure.

Congratulations to cin605 on your one year anniversary.

Welcome home Bob!

Thanks again Keri for this weeks review.

Our best to LADavid!

Keri,

Thank you for the update - what a busy week!

Prayers and best wishes for those having surgery:  Molly, Donna, Betsy, Patty, Julie and Brian.
And to their families - stay strong and remember the first three days after surgery do not count.

Greg & Susan - good luck in the TOG.  May your MRIs be clear!

Melissa - best wishes with your BAHA!

Sincerely,
Sue

A very busy week indeed.  I send my wellness wishes and healing hugglez to all those having treatments and follow ups this week... I'd also like to add another to the list as well. "Amy" is having Chiari surgery this Thursday, so special wellness wishes her way as well. She has family that participates on this forum.  My pirate sox will be on Thursday for her as well as for everyone else.

Be well, all!

Best wishes to Amy and Brian, who I didn't add to the list of surgeries this week. Thank you to Steve and Phyl for adding them to the list.

Also, when I was giving a quick update on Bob Stoneaxe's progress and also Greg M's GK, I didn't mention Pam (her husband is BSharpintexas). I just read up on them; Pam unfortunately had a CSF leak but is doing better and hopefully going home Tuesday!

Keri ~

Thanks once again for this weeks update.  Dichotomy is a useful word to describe conflicting emotions, i.e. excited but scared.  It also describes some of this weeks AN events, I guess.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of the surgery patients.  May you each have a successful, uncomplicated surgery and a swift recovery.  I'm sure Wendy's MRI will be clear and I'm equally sanguine about Susan's MRI review.  I'm quite confident Bob (stoneaxe) will continue his recovery at full bore.  I also trust that Greg M.'s radiation recovery will continue apace.  My very best wishes to Julie on her lateral tarsorrhaphy and for Grega's follow-up MRI scan results.  Oh, and happy 1-year anniversary, cin605!  :)  Sorry if I overlooked anyone.

My son made my Father's Day quite pleasant, as I expected he would.  I hope all the other fathers had a similar experience.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Thanks Keri for staying up so late to assemble that list!  Means a lot!

And thanks for all the well-wishes on my upcoming visit to the TOG.  Gee, this is better than having your name in lights, which, if that ever happens, I'll think of this day and all you fine folks as a more memorable experience :D

All the best to those on this week's list!
