Another brother dying
« on: January 22, 2011, 09:40:07 am »
My 58 year old brother suffered a massive heart attack two days ago. It is not looking good. He is on a respirator and now has a fever of 104. This is so hard on my father who is 82. He is in denial, which I know is normal. I lost another brother 7 years ago and my mom 3 years ago. I am strong, but I don't know how much more my dad can handle. On way to hospital now.

I am so sorry to hear about your brother and your Dad.  It is hard to see our parents  pain when a child is suffering.  Please accept my prayers for you and your family as you all go through this tragedy.

Lauren ~

I was saddened to learn that your brother suffered a massive heart attack and is struggling while your elderly father is in denial.  It would appear that you are in the middle, which is a stressful place to be.  Trying to see your brother through this crisis while keeping your father on track and having to submerge your own fears and concerns in order to support others.  I'll keep your brother, father and of course, you in my prayers.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hi Lauren,

I've not mentioned this yet as there's been so much upset in regard to family on the forum lately, but my heart is with you all. My Dad was taken to the ICU Tues Jan 11 by ambulance. He suffered a spontaneous pneumothorax and the Dr told my Mom to call us kids. The longest 2.5 hr drive of my life.

My Dad survived, but he's still in hospital. He still in a bad place and talking to my Mom today has been a bad day for him. I reached the breaking point tonight for a bit..poor Mom...but I'm better now...I think...

I wish you strength as you make your way through this journey in your life...

Thank you everyone for all your good wishes. There's been no change in my brother's condition, still critical. Fighting exhaustion and my headaches so I can be there for everyone. Hopefully I will sleep better tonight and tomorrow will be a better day for my brother.

Nikki,

All we can do is to take one day at a time. It's so hard to do because our minds are constantly saying-what if, how, why..... We need to stay strong, get our rest and eat well. so we can be there for our families. I know what you are going through and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
