It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia (Ginny) Fickel Ehr, the visionary founder of the Acoustic Neuroma Association, at the age of 96.

After having surgery for the removal of an acoustic neuroma in 1977, Ginny resolved that future acoustic neuroma patients should have easy-to-read medical materials about their condition, as well as support and camaraderie from other patients.

With the help of her physician, she contacted eight fellow patients and formed the Acoustic Neuroma Association to provide the very information and support to patients and their families that she was unable to find.

“I am proudest that…acoustic neuroma patients can talk…with others who have walked the same path and hear these magic, glorious words, 'I’ve been there. Tell me about it. Maybe I’ve found something that can help with your problem.’ I didn’t have that opportunity, and I’m glad I’ve provided it for others.”

We will be forever grateful for and inspired by her and her lasting legacy. The ANA and the AN community send our deepest condolences to Ginny's family.
