 Hearing Health Coverage in the US and Why There Should Be More

Hearing loss affects an estimated 48 million people in the United States, however, in a 955-page document describing health care in this country it is barely mentioned.

Although acoustic neuroma is rare, hearing loss is not and does have known, lasting physical as well as mental effects on quality of life for those dealing with it. This article describes how each state has different regulations for insurance companies when it comes to treating hearing loss and paying for hearing aids. Which explains why we hear that some people get their devices covered by insurance and others don't. The expense is one of the major barriers AN patients face when deciding whether or not to pursue this treatment. We must continue to build awareness around this issue!
