Most AN patients describe their tinnitus as ringing, buzzing or hissing sounds. But what if you hear music or singing? This can be distressing to some, who may fear that it is an early sign of dementia.

It is more likely caused by Musical Ear Syndrome, the not uncommom but rarely diagnosed "musical tinnitus". About 20% of those with tinnitus experience MES, but some suspect the rate is much higher - as much as 10% of the general population! Many may be hesitant to tell anyone, as they fear they will be viewed as mentally unstable. Awareness, as is often the case, is key. Read more about this fascinating phenomenon here and here.
