Our Support Group meetings are free and open to anyone affected by acoustic neuroma. We offer a variety of opportunities including in-person and virtual meetings, healthcare provider presentations, supportive group discussions, as well as topic-specific specialty groups. Navigating Your AN in and Around the Workplace - A Conversation with Vocational Rehabilitation Services
Presented by Mary Reis, MS, OWDS, Career Rehabilitation Counselor, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Saint Paul CareerForce and
Christine Marble, B.A., CI/CT, CESP - Occupational Communication Specialist – Senior

Join us to learn about the resources available through the Vocational Rehabilitation Services Federal Program. The presentation will also include helpful communication tips and how to advocate in various settings. There will be time for Q&A. MN residents that attend can receive enrollment information specific to MN programs.

About the presenters: 

Mary Reis
Mary has been employed with the State of Minnesota in the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) for over 31 years, 20 of these years as a Rehabilitation Counselor.  In DEED, Mary has worked at State Services for the Blind for 10 years, West St Paul CareerForce location for 4 years, Disability Determination Services for Social Security 7 years, and for the past 10 years in Vocational Rehabilitation Services in the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing unit. Mary has a B.A. degree in Psychology, and a B.S. in Communication Disorders (with a focus on hearing and hearing loss), both from the University of MN, Mpls; and a M.S. degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from MN State University, Mankato.  Mary is fluent in American Sign Language.  She is experienced in working with culturally diverse populations, and with people who have legal histories.

Christine Marble
Christine received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Minnesota and an A.A.S. from St. Paul College’s Interpreter/Transliterator Program.  She was the co-founder and CEO of a Community Rehabilitation Program for over a decade and has been a nationally certified Sign Language Interpreter for over 25 years.  She has worked as a freelance and video relay interpreter as well as an adjunct faculty member at St. Paul College where she taught classes in the Interpreter/Transliterator Program.  Christine currently works with the Department of Employment and Economic Development in the Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing unit of Vocational Rehabilitation.  She has provided presentations at the national level on a variety of employment-related topics and is a current board member of the MN APSE chapter.  Additionally, she is a co-chair for the Conference & Training committee.

The meeting will be facilitated by Steve Blons, an acoustic neuroma watch and wait patient and Laura Ferenci, an acoustic neuroma post-treatment patient.

Macalester Plymouth United Church is adjacent the Macalester College campus, at the intersection of Lincoln Ave and Macalester St. The parking lot is behind (south) of the church building.  Park at the west end of the lot.  The open entrance will be on the west side of the building.  Meeting room just to the right of that entrance.
