Our Support Group meetings are free and open to anyone affected by acoustic neuroma. We offer a variety of opportunities including in-person and virtual meetings, healthcare provider presentations, supportive group discussions, as well as topic-specific specialty groups. Title: Resiliency Skills to Improve Symptom Management and Quality of Life
Presenter: Ana-Maria Vranceanu, PhD - Clinical Health Psychologist and Associate
Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School
Dr. Vranceanu will discuss the concept of resiliency and how it applies to individuals with a medical illness. She will describe and present findings from her resiliency research program in patients with neurofibromatosis (NF), a set of 3 rare, genetic disorders associated with hearing loss, facial palsy and balance issues (NF2), disfiguration, pain and learning disabilities (NF1) and primarily chronic pain (schwannomatosis). She will describe and teach specific resiliency skills that can be successfully applied to manage general stress as well as symptoms associated with acoustic neuromas.
