Advanced Multidisciplinary Care for Acoustic Neuroma

NYU Langone Health is home to one of the nation’s most experienced programs for acoustic neuroma. Our nationally ranked neurosurgery and otolaryngology–head and neck surgery teams combine extensive surgical expertise with a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care.

The program’s senior leadership has cared for more than 6,000 patients over the past three decades, including nearly 4,000 who have undergone surgery. Today, five dedicated neurotology–neurosurgery teams work alongside radiation oncologists skilled in stereotactic radiosurgery, including Gamma Knife and CyberKnife, providing coordinated care across the full spectrum of tumor size and complexity.

We offer individualized treatment options, including observation, hearing preservation surgery using retrosigmoid and middle fossa approaches, microsurgical resection for larger tumors via translabyrinthine and transcochlear techniques, subtotal or near-total tumor removal when appropriate, and stereotactic radiosurgery. In selected patients, hearing preservation rates reach 70–80%, and protecting facial nerve function is a central priority in every plan.

Patients also benefit from comprehensive rehabilitation, including facial nerve reanimation, audiologic care, hearing rehabilitation with cochlear or auditory brainstem implants when appropriate, voice and swallowing care, and vestibular therapy. From diagnosis through long-term follow-up, our multidisciplinary team ensures coordinated, patient-centered care with compassion to achieve the best possible outcomes for every patient.
